American Psychological Association(APA) Referencing Method

APA referencing style is widely used in academic research and student assignments at tertiary level of study. We will come across with this term when assignments are given to us every semester but how much do we know about the APA referencing style?

Let me share some helpful tips with you.

Terms used

1. CITING means formally recognizing, within your text, the resources from which you have obtained information.

2. BIBIOGRAPHY is the list of sources you have used.

3. REFERENCE is the detailed description of the item from which you have obtained your information and cited in the text.

Common Mistakes

(1) Ali had 20 references in his REFERENCE page , but non was cited in the text.

(2) References in references section are numbered.

Correction

(1) The APA style recommends listing only those works actually cited in the text, so you would not include works for background or for further reading in the references.

(2) DO NOT number the entries in the Reference section. All entries must be made in alphabetical order.

It will be considered as plagiarism if we use the information obtained from elsewhere without citing them. Avoid copy and paste and try to use direct or indirect quote to cite the sources used, to make our work looks reliable and to avoid plagiarism issue.

I hope you find this post helpful and correct me if I'm wrong. For further information about APA style, please refer to http://www.apastyle.org

Wish you have a happy weekend!
