What An Electronic Suicide Note Tells.

“Goodbye, my friend, goodbye My love, you are in my heart.”

This is the electronic suicide note written by the Malaysia's romeo who committed suicide for love. The note was written and posted as status update on Facebook, attracted up to 200 likes but only a few took this note seriously. Some might have found this note a real one, but no real actions was taken to kill his suicidal intention, including his sister.

Recalling the times when I first started using web instant messaging application to communicate, when most people are faking their identity and disguise as others. A male liked to disguise as female, to enjoy the fun of talking to virtual friends and without worries and beyond moral boundaries in the virtual world, who would believe that a suicide note is actually real instead of simply a prank?

Yes, the trend is different now. With the popular social networking sites - Facebook, the life of hundreds of millions of users worldwide are now connected to each other through the virtual world. Undeniably, it has become a part of our life, and most of the words that was told on the web could be regarded as the truthful words coming out from deep inside of our heart, and some are even those that we would never have the courage to tell others in reality.

So, at this point of time, can a suicide note posted on the web can still be ignored? The world has already answered that, when another dumb ass (Lun Sky) from Malaysia announced and intended to end his life by 15 December 2010.

Of course, no one is to be blamed by his death except himself. Some would say, what can I do even if I know? This person is seeking for death himself, why should i care? Some responded in the way that is aggressive, hoping that condemning his action can bring the guilt inside him that could actually lead to elimination his suicidal thoughts. Some even commented to ask the person to end his life right now (they think that suiciding is stupid, and should not care for person who does not even care for his own life). Typical example is: The world doesn't need you, why don't you just kill yourself right now?

Tonnes of criticisms and praises appeared after his death. Some regarded him as Malaysian Romeo that sacrificed himself for love;some said he is silly because he committed suicide for his 3 months short-life relationship, some said he is irresponsible towards his family, some said he is unfilial to his parents who brought him up and some said he did it for attention and as a punishment to his ex-girlfriend.

Imagine what a depressed person like him actually thinking, and hoping, at probably the very last minute of his life, that somebody could show up to tell him the reasons of living that can help him to get through the final sad moments of 45 minutes and keep him breathing till the next morning.

A sentence of comfort words conveyed face-to-face is definitely worth more than a simple Facebook reply. None...None of his friends showed up to offer help in the end, which ended up he jumped down from the 14th floor without others knowledge.

In my opinion, he was just too depressed, felt helpless and hopeless, and probably suffered from depression. He needed help and he already asked for help indirectly, through his status updates on Facebook. He should not be blamed for posting his last words on Facebook, because Facebook is just a medium for him to express his thoughts, about how hopeless he was when he decided to commit suicide. A psychologist interviewed by The Star also in the view that he could be saved if there was any inkling of help or hope.

Many argued that he should not post his suicide note on Facebook. I supported this at the beginning but changed my view afterwards. If we examine this issue from another dimension, conversely, posting on Facebook is actually a good practice. Logically think, do we want to see a dead body then only know there is a person intended to suicide, or we want to know it before he do it? For sure, a reasonable person would find an electronic suicide note can actually aid people in detecting any abnormal behaviour of his/her friends and take appropriate actions. Lun Sky is a classic example, he's probably dead by now if he killed himself before others discover his intention to suicide. I think, Alviss had actually saved his ass indirectly .People become greatly aware of the severity of this issue after his death and guided Lun Sky before the fatal consequences come. On the contrary, the note did bring great negative impacts on the girl's future for Alviss case, which the girl does not deserve. Good or bad, judge yourself.

In conclusion, suicide is a serious social issue that should be tackled in this modern society. The suicide rate is reportedly higher in developed country like Japan but this growing trend of suicide can also now be seen in developing country like Malaysia. Suicide is the worst permanent solution to a problem that does not solve any problems. There are many other reasons for us to live in this world despite the difficult life we have. It is our responsibility to those who care for us to live happily until we die naturally. Cherish our life , provide assistance to anyone when needed and spread the words to create awareness on this issue. Your little effort can make the difference.

14/11/2010 Clash of UTARians 2010

Again, I was at the sports complex for first aid duty for another mega sports event to allow all UTARIANS from all campuses to pit against each other in core sports like basketball, football, futsal, tug of war and so on.

I was the sports captain of basketball which in charge of organizing basketball games for all the sports events in UTAR since last year but this time, I attended the event as a first aider. I was actually quite happy that I don’t have to organize the game again from this trimester onwards. It was a boring job because the organizing process was so routinely done by me since last year until this trimester.

At about 9.30am, the event started off with female category basketball match. I was surprised to see there are so many female basketball players in the court because we really can hardly get a female to join the matches in the past. Their spirits were so high and i could tell that both teams wanted so much to win. They really fought hard and even some of them who had already injured still insisted to continue with the game. One of the injured female players from Klang valley who sprained her foot even cried and begged her coach to let her continue with the game. Guess what the young female couch replied? She said, “F* you ,I don’t F*ing give a shit”(Really salah dao~hahaha. ). UTAR Pk campus won both the categories for basketball with one point of winning margin for each game.

The event later continued with football and tug of war in the afternoon. PK campus scored a goal at the very last minute and won the football game with a close score of 1-0 against Klang valley team. Besides that, PK campus also managed to pull the opponents to the losing line with no pressure during tug of war. It was an easy match for them. All the games finished at about 4pm.

At the end of the event, PK campus managed to retain the big and shinning overall champion trophy at the campus and won in most sports except futsal and volleyball. Although Klang valley team lost, but i think they should not be disappointed. They should be proud of their spirit instead because this is the only but most valuable thing that PK campus team lack of. Klang valley team deserves a clap from all UTARians.

Lastly, to all the UTARIANS, see you guys again next year!

American Psychological Association(APA) Referencing Method

APA referencing style is widely used in academic research and student assignments at tertiary level of study. We will come across with this term when assignments are given to us every semester but how much do we know about the APA referencing style?

Let me share some helpful tips with you.

Terms used

1. CITING means formally recognizing, within your text, the resources from which you have obtained information.

2. BIBIOGRAPHY is the list of sources you have used.

3. REFERENCE is the detailed description of the item from which you have obtained your information and cited in the text.

Common Mistakes

(1) Ali had 20 references in his REFERENCE page , but non was cited in the text.

(2) References in references section are numbered.

Correction

(1) The APA style recommends listing only those works actually cited in the text, so you would not include works for background or for further reading in the references.

(2) DO NOT number the entries in the Reference section. All entries must be made in alphabetical order.

It will be considered as plagiarism if we use the information obtained from elsewhere without citing them. Avoid copy and paste and try to use direct or indirect quote to cite the sources used, to make our work looks reliable and to avoid plagiarism issue.

I hope you find this post helpful and correct me if I'm wrong. For further information about APA style, please refer to http://www.apastyle.org

Wish you have a happy weekend!

First Aider In Every Home Camp 2010

*Group photo with all committees and advisor. Waka Waka~

On 23 and 24 October2010, I joined a camp that might be the most memorable one in my life.

The name of the camp is 'First Aider In Every Home Camp 2010'. I have totally no regret of joining the committee team to work with all the organizing committees. Thinking back to the previous semester during performance management lecture at DDK1, when our organizing chairperson first offered me the post of organizing treasurer, I was like a little bit hesitate to join and even thought of rejecting her offer because of overloaded academic and extra-curriculum works. Besides that, drop in previous semester academic results made me to feel resisted to the offer as well. In the end, I finally been convinced by her sincerity and decided to join. If she didn't insist on the offer at the first place, I wouldn't be here to be with all of the committees and might have missed the chance to get to know all of you and to experience the happiest moment in my university life.

P.S.: I need to thank her for inviting me.

*Chiu Li, the organizing chairperson delivering speech during closing ceremony.

Without being exaggerating, I really feel that this camp was really successfully and everything went well throughout the event, although some problems arose in the course of preparation and even on the event day itself. The committee team managed to handle them well without complaints, and instead lending a helping hand to provide solutions. This is something that many event organizing teams do not have. In addition, participants were hyperactive; camp facilities were great; programs were well-organized and committee members were committed. What can i say more about this camp other than one word-GREAT!

*King of Bush and ex-King of Bush

At first, I was a little bit worry about the social night programs because I was in charge of the programs for social night and aerobics exercise. I've no experience in these things so what I can do is to download videos from Youtube and to learn the dance and aerobics step by step through the video. I was able to imitate the steps from the video but still my movements were stiff like a dancing robot(people always describe me as that). I was so scared that I might screw the social night. In fact, I will. Luckily in the end our lovely and helpful Jeanie with experiences in dancing and organizing camps came to help and took over the jobs. She's so nice!If she wasn't there, I might have screwed the most fun part of our event- The First Aid Social Night. She conducted the Social Night like a 'professional' and everyone really enjoyed a lot that night.

P.S.: I gotta thank her very much for that.

*Committee were practicing Waka-Waka dance before the social night.

One week before the event, we gathered at Chiu li house almost for every night to practice the Waka-waka dance as well as those interaction games. Everyone was so cooperative and even one of the committee members who will be having exam on the following weeks also joined the practice session with no complaints. I was so impressed about that. That week is really a fun-filled week and we had a lot of funs together. We were like a family, that take care of each other. This is also the time when we build up our trust and friendships, and this is the time when a unbreakable bond was formed among us. At the end of that week, everyone was physically drained out but that really worths.

P.S.: I'm so glad that I joined this organizing committee.

Excellence In Demand

After...
Years of dreaming,
Months of planning,
Days of preparing,
I'm still striving to reaching another peak,
But the results are always disappointing, discouraging, demotivating.
I feel like...giving up.

Maybe...
Maybe, that's the point where I can only achieve;
Maybe, there's something that stop me from moving forward;
Maybe, that's my maximum potential;
Or,
Maybe, I wasn't hardworking enough;
Maybe, my plan wasn't that thorough and effective;
Maybe, that's my destiny...

Sometimes...
Relax is better than working too hard.
This is what I see from some people.
They don't need to work hard,
yet they still can get good results.

Yes...
Some people work hard to survive; Some people work least to succeed. (what kind of logic is that?)

This world is so unfair.

However,
I know, I will overcome all obstacles as they come;
I know, I will design a more effective and efficient study plan next time;
I know, I will put my words in actions and plans;
AND I know, I will be able to achieve a better outcome in the near future;
As long as I maintain the philosophies that I believe in,

Be a proactive person, be a knowledge seeker,
I still stand a chance to exceed and unleash my hidden potential.
Every second is a chance to improve, either directly or indirectly.

Don't give up...

I promise myself,
Next time, I will not let myself down;
Next time, I'm going to break through the point,
and GET ALL THE OUTCOMES THAT I WANTed...

Study Smart- Way to double your effort

The power of mind-map cannot be underestimated!
I attended the Festival of Mind this semester, and i guess I've learnt something useful from that event. I always wanted to test on this method but didn't do so because I thought that it won't be effective and it will definitely waste my time. However, the results showed that I was wrong, mind-mapping is extremely effective. That's why I'm writing this post to share with anyone who 'pass by' my blog. Our brains love pictures, don't they?

Maintaining status quo is not the thing that we need in order to succeed! What we need are:

Innovation and Creativity

Study hard and smart! Good luck for any person who read this post.

P.S. Hope you learn something from me today =) Sorry for posting ugly picture (above).HAHA
